Rest as Resistance

What It Is

Intentional rest chosen freely, not because you’re sick or have “earned” it.

Why It Helps

Hustle culture and purity teachings both train us to prove our worth through productivity. Resting without justification is a radical act of self-trust. Your body remembers it doesn’t have to earn care.

What You Need

A space where you can lie down or sit comfortably. Turn off devices if possible.

How to Do It

Set aside 30+ minutes with nothing on the agenda. Lie down, nap, stare at the ceiling, read for pleasure, or do nothing. When guilt arises (“I should be productive”), name it aloud: “I notice guilt, and I’m resting anyway.” You don’t have to earn rest.

This Is Not Worship

It’s self-compassion and nervous system restoration.

Variations

Call it a “rest appointment” in your calendar, create a cozy nest with blankets, or rest outside in sunlight.
