Five Minutes of Pleasure
What It Is
A micro-practice of allowing your body to experience something purely pleasant.
Why It Helps
If you were taught that pleasure is selfish or sinful, your nervous system may resist goodness. Practicing small moments of pleasure rewires shame patterns and reminds you that joy is your birthright.
What You Need
Anything that feels good: warm tea, soft fabric, sunlight on your skin, a favorite song, lotion on your hands.
How to Do It
Set a timer for five minutes. Choose one pleasant sensory experience. Slow down and notice every detail. When your mind wanders to tasks or guilt, gently return to the sensation. You are allowed to feel good.
This Is Not Worship
It’s self-compassion and nervous system regulation through positive sensory input.
Variations
Combine multiple senses (candlelight + tea), do it daily as a “pleasure appointment,” or journal afterward about what you noticed.
