The Reaching-Out Practice
What It Is
A small gesture of connection that doesn’t require deep conversation or vulnerability.
Why It Helps
Isolation deepens shame. Reaching out—even just to say “thinking of you”—reminds you that connection is possible and you’re not as alone as fear insists. You don’t have to explain yourself to deserve care.
What You Need
A phone and one person’s contact info.
How to Do It
Think of someone you care about. Send a short text or voice note: “Thinking of you today” or “Hope you’re doing okay.” Don’t wait for a response. The practice is the reaching, not the reply.
This Is Not Worship
It’s attachment repair and community-building.
Variations
Rotate through different people weekly, send a meme or song that made you think of them, or schedule a weekly “connection date” with yourself.
