Anger as Energy

What It Is

Physical expression of anger through movement, sound, or safe impact.

Why It Helps

Anger is information and energy. If you were taught that anger is sinful—especially if you’re a woman or socialized female—it gets suppressed and turns into anxiety, depression, or physical pain. Moving anger through your body completes the emotion.

What You Need

Privacy and something safe to hit (pillow, mattress) or space to move big.

How to Do It

Set a timer for 10-15 minutes. Give yourself permission to be angry. Punch a pillow, stomp your feet, push against a wall with all your strength, or rip paper. Make noise if it feels right—growl, yell into a pillow. When the timer ends, pause and notice your body.

Variations

Write an angry letter you won’t send first, shake your whole body afterward, or end with slow breaths to signal completion.
